Action on climate.
Jessica Bell has been a proud and clear voice on climate action as the MPP for University-Rosedale since 2018.
Jessica has advocated for a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable economy, rooted in affordability, equity, and reconciliation.
Since 2018 she has:
- Introduced legislation to keep our water and green spaces clean – by requiring filters on all washing machines to prevent microplastics, which make up 80% of plastic pollution, from contaminating Ontario's natural environments, wetlands, and lakes.
- Called for an ambitious building retrofit program, and proposed rebates and interest-free loans for Ontarians making renovations moving towards net-zero emissions homes – as buildings currently make up 61% of our emissions in Toronto.
- Opposed plans to expand gas operations at Toronto's Portlands Energy Centre – which would increase emissions at the plant by 700% – and called for cleaner, greener energy in our province.
- Advocated for fully-funded transit and sustainable operating support from the province for the TTC.
- Fought to keep existing bike lanes on Bloor St, Yonge St and University Ave so that everyone has options to safely get from A to B.
